For label converters and flexible packaging manufacturers, the direct drive flexo press eliminates the mechanical limitations of conventional gear-driven systems. Each print deck is driven by an independent servo motor directly coupled to the plate cylinder, so the entire machine operates without a central gear train. This design is often described as a Gearless flexographic press or a Gearless flexo printing press because it removes backlash, gear wear, and the need to change gear sets for different repeat lengths. For fully automated production lines, the configuration extends to a Full servo flexo press or a Full servo flexographic printing machine, adding pre-register systems, automatic impression control, dynamic tension management, and centralized job storage. The Direct drive flexo press features a heavy-duty cast-iron frame with precision linear guides and a cantilever-free drum design. Each print deck includes a high-torque linear motor, a ceramic anilox roll with a quick-change chamber doctor blade, and a servo-controlled plate cylinder that can be adjusted independently in axial and circumferential directions. Print pressure, anilox speed, and plate cylinder position are all controlled through a closed-loop servo system, giving operators repeatable dot reproduction and consistent color density across the full web width. The press supports 4 to 12 printing stations and can run water-based, solvent-based, or UV-curable inks. Drying options include UV LED, LED-UV, hot air, and IR, with independent temperature control on each deck. The machine handles substrates from 12 μm unsupported film to 450 gsm board, with a maximum web width up to 670 mm and a maximum mechanical speed of 200 m/min. Inline modules for cold foil transfer, lamination, rotary die cutting, slitting, and sheeting can be added without changing the main frame.
